Catfish fishing is an art. If you master the skills, the results will be amazing. While learning, we are tend to make many mistakes. Skills are not learned by reading books but by experiences. The mistakes that made in earlier catches need rectification in the next fishing trip. For that, an evaluation, especially, on catfishing techniques, baits used and chosen fishing spot, is vital.

Bait Chosen

The results in your previous catch is not so encouraging might due to bait that used does not correspond to the favoured species. Usually anglers bring plenty of live baits or home-made baits without knowing type of catfish they going to fish. Before go to certain water, you need to have some idea on kind of species ( flathead, blue or channel commonly) inhabit that water, or the origin of the fishes in order to prepare the baits accordingly.

Time of fishing

The catfishes not feeding the whole day. They have eating pattern where they more active at night. By choosing to fish at night, the fishing results can be improved. It also good to do some homework by gathering information on nature and habits of eating of the catfishes from the books and net.

Catfish prefer clean water with less plants
Condition Of The Fishing Site

Catfish prefer a little clear water condition with low dense water plants. The condition is best if the color of the water is quite green due to the presence of algae and moss. Catfish does not like water with mud and silt which reduces the oxygen content. Too much of mud and silt also cause them inactive in search for food and avoiding the bait. Study the water condition of the spot you choose before go fishing.

Catfish fishing is not a complicated job. With little evaluation and correct catfishing techniques, your fishing results, of course, will skyrocket.

Night fishing for catfish is easier

As all the anglers well aware, catfish live in dark deep waters. Their sense of smell is well-developed compared to their visual sense. They use this advantage to locate and prey for their food in murky places. Due to their nature, they prefer cool night condition and not hot day time to crawl around. If you have never tried night fishing for catfish before, it's far easier to get them eat your bait at night.

Night catfishing can be fun and thrill
Before setting your bait or begin to catch, you should decide which species you are aiming and what is your target size. For example, if you are looking for blue or channel catfish, of small or medium size ( below 15 lbs ), the bait choice can be any natural smelly food like chicken liver and shrimps. If hoping for larger cats, the baits offered should be bigger dead fish.

Among the common catfish ( Channel, blue or flathead ), Flathead is an active hunter while the other two are passive feeders. Though, properly set dead fish bait can attract many of the flatheads to struck your bait.

In conclusion, if you decided on the size of the species you are targeting, your bait can be set accordingly. Flatheads feel unthreatened at night and they approach shallow waters for hunting, but otherwise, all the three common catfishes, roaming in deep holes. As drift fishing, sliding ledger rig also doing good job at night. With the right depth of fishing spot and ideal bait size, catfish can be caught easily at night. Have a try. How to String a Fishing Reel

After purchase the reel and strings,the first task is to tie the strings on the spool. The strings should be tie using Centauri knot technique. To tie the knot follow the steps as below.

1. First wrap the thread on the spool

2. Then create loops in the main thread

 
3. Create loops 3 times
   

4. Then at last winding input end of the thread through the coil which was first created and continue until the final winding.


5. Tighten the tie by pulling on the main thread until it looked like a in figure below
